Why 'Clean'?

The most common question I get, "don't you already do that?"

Well, yes, kind of. For the most part I do 'eat clean'.

For starters, let's define 'clean'. I would define 'clean' as cutting out the 'bad stuff'.

What's bad?

  • Foods with a lot of ingredients on the label
  • Foods that have  a lot of hormones
  • Foods that are 'processed'
  • Foods with artificial colors
  • Foods that do not come from out of the ground

So, what's good?
  • Foods with color
  • Foods that come from the ground
  • Foods that are simple
  • Foods that take a lot of time to prepare
  • Foods from in their natural state
If I were to follow this description of 'good' and 'bad' I guess I do eat 'clean'. However, I know there has got to be more to it than to eat colorful meals and avoid 'processed' foods. This is just the beginning of a journey I am taking myself on. I will be researching and exploring ways to cut out the bad stuff and clean 'me' up.

Why?

Why not? I already feel good, I feel healthy. And I AM healthy. But I am curious to see how my body responds to fully clean eating. This is not necessarily a ploy to lose a whole bunch of weight or go granola or organic. I just want to clean up and see how its done.

A few goals I am going to set to begin:
  1. Cut out sweets and unnatural sugars
  2. Cut out all non-whole grain carbs
  3. Cut out processed dairy (the best I can)
  4. Cut out processed foods (wait, what is and isn't processed?)
  5. Will NOT be cutting out black coffee and tea :)
  6. Cut out any/all processed meats and meats with hormones or artificially raised
  7. Continue to exercise, so so so important!
Thats good for starters. I'm supposed to be doing research, right?

I will be starting with a 40-day stint for lent. March 5 to April 17. And go from there. Until March 5 I will be researching and planning as to how to make this work.

Here goes nothing, or everything. ;)
